An analyst from NPD DisplaySearch has been claiming that a future Surface tablet from Microsoft will probably drop the display size to 7.5 inches. We’ve been hearing about a Surface Mini for a while now and the recent decrease in minimum resolution supported on Win 8 also hinted to that.

Back to the analyst, he’s claiming that the new product will pack a 7.5 inch display with a resolution of 1400 x 1050 pixels. The screen will have a density of 233 pixels per inch, so the display will be sharper than both the iPad Mini and the Nexus 7. Microsoft will incorporate the touch module into the panel in order to reduce costs, apparently.

CNET is also reporting on this, saying another source is telling them that Microsoft wants to target the price to $399 for the new and smaller Surface slate. Mass production is estimated for Q1 2014, although we were somehow believing the product was coming this year. We do know that MS might be announcing a new Surface in June, but there’s no way to tell if Surface 2 will end up being Surface Mini in the end… a specs upgrade would certainly be welcome.
