Samsung didn’t forget about the older devices in its portofolio and decided to offer the Android Pie update to older slates. We’re talking about the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 and Galaxy Tab A (2017). These devices have received Android 9.0 Pie and we have details below.

Galaxy Tab S3 was a flagship tablet in 2017 and is still pretty powerful, while the Galaxy Tab A (2017) is a budget device from 2 years ago. Both had Android Nougat when they debuted and now they’re getting probably their last updates. The update for the Tab S3 is rolling out to the LTE version of the device from Malaysia, Philippines and Vietnam.

The Tab A is only getting the software in Malaysia. Android Pie also brings One UI in the mix and the latest security patches available. One UI brings a Night Mode, improved navigation, extra optimizations in the background for resource usage and more muted colors. The August 2019 security patch is also here, which plugs 7 critical Android vulnerabilities and 17 Samsung-specific threats.

Tab A (2017) stays on the June security patch. If you want to check the availability of the software on your unit, you should go to Settings, select Software Update and tap on “Download Updates Manually”. You can also get the firmware from here for the Tab S3 and here for the Tab A.
