For a while there we had no hope of seeing Android Marshmallow on the first gen Galaxy Tab S slates, according to Samsung Netherlands. But then out of nowhere the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 started getting the update and now the smaller version of Tab S also gets it.

We’re talking about the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 LTE, that received the Android 6.0.1 software release in Germany. The rollout was confirmed at the end of the week for the SM-T705 device version. The update brings the software to Marshmallow, providing greater control over permissions, enhanced battery life via Doze and offering a new app drawer.

Bug fixes and stability boosts are also offered here. Of course, the release comes in stages, so it may take a week or more, till all the Tab S owners will get their own software. Carrier association may add to the delay. Anyhow, one should visit Settings, About Device and then tap on “Software Update”, plus “Download Updates Manually”, to summon the Marshmallow.
