Samsung Galaxy Fold had a bumpy start last year, but the Galaxy Z Flip saw Samsung getting into its stride with foldables. The next barrier to crack? Affordability, apparently and we have rumors about Samsung’s Galaxy Fold Lite, which may end up costing less than $1100.
The codename “Winner2”, which has been going around for a bit now seems to fit not with a Galaxy Fold follow up, as rumored, but rather to a Galaxy Fold Lite 4G. All of this is just speculation for now, so take it with a big grain of salt. The Galaxy Fold Lite 4G would be on sale for $1099 and it would combine components from 2018, 2019 and 2020 Samsung phones. The screen won’t have UTG (Ultra Thin Glass) protection, so we may see the Galaxy Fold OG screen recycled.
The rumor also mentions 256 GB of storage and a Snapdragon 865, which appears with a question mark. Aluminum and glass are the materials of choice and a smaller cover display is being considered compared to the first Galaxy Fold. It will actually resemble the external screen of a Galaxy Z Flip more. Color options may include Mirror Black and Mirror Purple. The price sounds particularly appealing, considering the first Galaxy Fold costs $1980 in USA and the Galaxy Fold 2 is said to be priced at $1780.
Samsung may just have a huge batch of first gen Galaxy Folds laying around, after having already thrown a chunk of them towards Pablo Escobar’s brother (Escobar Phone). They may reuse the components towards this newcomer. Compromises may kill the Fold Lite though…
