The latest e-reader/tablet comes straight from Australia and it’s dubbed QuokkaPad. This device features an 8 inch LCD touchscreen display, with a 800 x 600 pixel resolution, a 400MHz MIPS processor and it runs Linux 2.6.24.3 with the GPE Palmtop Environment UI on top. Two other kernels have room on the device, maybe Android or Windows CE.
The hardware on the tablet is flexible, since it includes a removable WiFi card and a user-accessible battery. There’s also a USB 2.0 port on board (a regular Host port), that supports the connection of 3G dongles, digital cameras and other accessories.
QuokkaPad is expected to hit the market with a $330-380 price tag.
