South Korea is without a doubt the home of the largest tech inventions of the last years, with Samsung and LG constantly innovating in all fields, from smartphones to tablets and TVs. However, North Korea is also looking to make a name for itself, as we can conclude from the news that they made their very own tablets, that was spotted recently in Pyongyang.

This week a picture was snapped in North Korea, showing a man, Choi Cheol Min of Chosun Computer holding a large tablet PC with what looks like Android on board. He was at a trade fair in Pyongyang and the slate seen here is encase in a leather or plastic cover, we’re not sure. The boxes on the shelf behind Mr. Choi say “Samjiyon”, the name of a North Korean tablet computer that has been in the news before. Officials from the South Korean branch of Google looked interested in the tablet, since it ran Android, which is ok, since it’s open source, but it’s not OK if Gmail or Google Play are on board.

We have no further info about the slate, that could be the start of a new market in North Korea and a new export product. While their southern neighbour is doing so well, why not take advantage of skills and resources and come up with a rival product for the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 for example? Then Apple can sue more than one Korean device…
