We’ve finally received our test unit of the new iPad aka iPad 3 for review purposes. We’ve unboxed the thingie, only to be amazed by its resolution and we’re playing Angry Birds Space HD as we speak. The unboxing can be seen in the photo and video below and the vid also offers a minor autofocus test from the camera.
The new iPad comes with an Apple A5x processor, LTE connectivity, a 5MP iSight camera, the famous Retina Display with a 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution and a gigantic 11.560 mAh battery. Right now I noticed that the battery takes quite a while to charge, but it does last 9-10 hours, so the performance is great. Inside the box we find the usual stickers, charger, adapter, USB Cable and tiny manual/warranty. The tablet runs iOS 5.1 and the box simply mentions “iPad” without any extra branding, aside from the iCloud one on the side.
It was quite fun to sync my apps from iCloud, the ones I used last year to review the iPad 2 and upgrade them. I’m talking especially about Garage Band, that I’ll play with in the following days. Right now the Retina Display kicks serious behind, but the overall performance of the tablet doesn’t impress me that much, so I can’t really feel the jump in CPU. Well, it sure beats any Android slate that’s for sure.
