Microsoft has started offering discounts for the Surface Pro tablet models, following a series of reductions for the Surface RT. While the RT unit lost $150 from its original price, the Pro will only lose $100.
The offer stands between August 4th and August 29th and only for customers in Canada, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and USA. Microsoft mentions “great worldwide success with the Surface RT pricing promotions”, but in fact I think they want to get rid of the stocks and prepare for a new generation of Surface models.
The 64 GB and 128 GB models lose the same hundred of dollars and I wonder that this means in losses for Microsoft. In Q3 alone the company took a $900 million hit on the account of Surface RT on its own and it appears they may be heading to 2 billion if the reductions carry on. Microsoft did hint at refreshed Surface RT and Pro models coming soon, which hopefully won’t be DOA…
