The folks of iFixit proceeded to a teardown of the brand new Microsoft Surface Pro 2, that was recently made available in stores. As usual, they discussed the internals of the device and addressed its repairability. Want to see how this model faired? Keep reading!
Well, the specs here include pretty much a slight upgrade of the predecessor, including a 4th gen Intel Core i5 processor, 64/128 or 256/512 GB of storage, plus 4 GB of RAM for the first two models of storage and 8 GB of RAM for the latter two. There are two HD cameras, one at the front and one at the back and a full size USB 3.0, Mini DisplayPort and microSDXC card reader.
The device also sports a 2 stage kickstand with options for either a 24 degree or 40 degree viewing angle. Skipping ahead with all the details, I have to said that iFixit considers this device very hard to repair, with a repairability score of 1 out of 10, with 10 being the easiest to repair. The SSD can be replaced, but you’ll risk heavy damage to the tablet, just by opening it.
There are over 90 screws inside the device, which is also a bad thing and the display is fused, so very hard to remove.
