During an official event today Microsoft debuted its new generation of Surface tablets, including a Windows 8.1 model and a Windows RT 8.1 unit. The RT unit is dubbed Surface 2, while the Pro 2 version is the one with full fledged Windows on board.
Inside we find a Haswell Core i5 1.6 GHz processor and the whole thing is kept under 1 kilo, weighing 907 grams. MS promised about 7 hours of WiFi on functioning and there’s apparently a fan inside as well. Microsoft have also launched a keyboard cover with a 30 Wh battery inside. The device measures 1.34 cm in thickness and its price tag will start at $899.
The screen here is a 10.6 incher with a Full HD resolution and we’ve got between 4 to 8 GB of RAM inside, as well as 64 t 256 GB of storage. There’s Bluetooth 4.0 available, WiFi b/g/n, a 720p front and back camera and dual channel LPDDR3 RAM supported. The Touch cover 2 is backlit and goes for $119.99. We’ve got a docking station pictured here, that includes 3 USB 2.0 ports and a USB 3.0 port.
The kickstand now offers a two stage usage, solving the problems with the odd angle of the predecessor. Expect preorders tomorrow and a release in store in a month.
