MediaTek is turning up to be a big player on the processor market, since every week we see a new tablet with one of their CPUs inside. Of course, it’s all budget slates and now there’s another reason to be excited by that: MediaTek has announced a new CPU.
I’m talking about the quad core MT8125 processor for budget slates. This is a quad core Cortex A7 chipset that uses the PowerVR Series5XT graphics. It also has a higher clock speed of 1.5 GHz, compared to its predecessor. The extra processing power allows the chip to handle up to a 1920 x 1200 display and offers support for 13 megapixel cameras and 1080p video capture.
The SoC comes with EDGE cellular data support in some configurations, or full HSPA+ or WiFi. The Lenovo IdeaTab S6000 series is first in line to use this chipset, in case you’re wondering. The CPU also promises full support for the MediaTek 4 in 1 connectivity combo, that converges WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and FM. Miracast is also supported.
