Interestingly enough, tablets (including iPad) have been banned from Old Trafford by the Manchester United higher ups. The concept of filming an entire match has sparked such bans usually during concerts and such, but smartphones are the one doing the filming, not slates…

Apparently, there’s a growing trend of people using iPads to capture Manchester United’s matches and if you ask me, that’s a pretty wrong use of the device. The biggest problem here is not exactly the capture itself, but rather blocking the view of the people behind and sparking conflict and frustration. There’s a big Man United match today with Valencia, where coach van Gaal will have his first test and supporters attending the game have already been notified via email regarding the proceedings.

The email mentions restrictions for “large electronic devices”, bigger than 150 mm x 100 mm, that can’t be brought inside the stadium. iPads and other “tablet devices” and laptops are prohibited. Large bags, large cameras and liquids are also banned. This is not a totally new measure, since back in 2010, when the tablet area was still ripe, New York Yankees banned the iPads from their stadium.

It took 2 years for them to change their minds…
