These days many people are wondering why prominent devices still don’t have Android 8.0 or 8.1 on board. We still have a lot of flagships stuck at Android Nougat, some just at Oreo 8.0 not 8.1 and of course tablets galore stuck at last gen OS. Lenovo’s Tab4 tablets may have been best sellers, but they’re in for a long wait till Oreo comes.

We’ve learned from official sources that the company is working on the updates, but we’ll have to wait till November to get them. We’re talking about the Lenovo Tab4 8, Lenovo Tab 4 8 Plus and Lenovo Tab 4 10. Interestingly, the official list seems to be lacking the Lenovo Tab 4 10 Plus. Updates will be rolled out in November 2018, complete with Play Protect, notification dots/badges and snooze for notifications.

Picture in Picture and battery enhancements will also be here. It’s very likely that the Tab4 models will stop at Android 8.1 Oreo and won’t receive Android P. I find it interesting that these Lenovo slates jump straight from Android 7.1 to Android 8.1, not to Android 8.0, but I’ve seen that approach before on phones. Such slates have been great hits in countries like India, where Lenovo has a strong foothold and also in Asian countries.

They’re the kind of tablet that gets bundled with a new TV set, a carrier contract or some sort of special offer, especially the smaller versions.
