There’s e-readers and then there’s Kobo’s freshest offering, a premium reader that will be coming soon and has just leaked over the past 24 hours. This model is said to be priced at $255 and it bears the name of Kobo Aura ONE 7.8.
These details came once the device was spotted online at the FCC recently and now it also appeared via a Dutch retailer, that pulled its listing in the meantime. The product listing had the 7.8 incher with premium specs, similar to the ones of the Amazon higher end e-ink readers. Kobo Aura ONE packs a 7.8 inch screen with a 1872 x 1404 pixel resolution and a Carta E Ink touchscreen panel.
The slate is expected to have a waterproof case, but it’s not clear if that’s an accessory or the waterproofing is baked in. There’s WiFi 802.11 b/g/n and a microUSB port too, for charging the device. 512 MB of RAM are included, plus 8 GB of storage, a microSD card slot and a battery life rumored to be at around a month or so.
