Apple iPhone Duo foldable phone shown open.

A foldable phone only starts to make sense as a mobile-computing device when its software treats the opened screen as more than a larger phone panel. Apple says iPhone Duo will do that through App Store listings marked “Made for iPhone Duo,” identifying apps built to take advantage of the device’s dual displays, flexible positions, and multitasking layout.

The iPhone Duo’s main display is said to be 50% larger than the one on iPhone 18 Pro Max. Apple also highlights instant app transitions between the outer and inner displays, along with side-by-side app use. That combination gives developers room for document-and-tool layouts, expanded video controls, and maps or dashboards that remain visible beside supporting information.

Work apps get the most tablet-like layouts

Several productivity apps use the additional display area in ways that resemble a compact tablet or laptop workspace rather than a conventional phone interface.

  • Microsoft Word: Places formatting tools beside the document in a desktop-style interface.
  • Microsoft Outlook: Shows the inbox alongside an open message.
  • Zoom: Displays shared content and meeting participants at the same time.
  • Slack: Provides fast access to workspaces, channels, and automations.
  • Salesforce: Expands dashboards for customer-relationship management and business analytics.
  • Fantastical: Brings calendars, tasks, and menus together across the larger workspace.
  • Notewise: Combines notes, documents, and AI tools in one workspace.
  • Things: Supports more advanced information organization and task management.
  • Bear: Supports more advanced information organization and task management.
  • 24me Smart Personal Assistant: Uses an adaptable side-by-side workspace for calendar items, tasks, notes, and reminders.
  • GroupCal Shared Calendar: Expands the shared-calendar view for families, teams, and communities.
  • Detail: Uses Core AI to run AI models on-device during content creation.
  • Instagram: Shows more posts and Stories at once.
  • Edits: Keeps the timeline, editing tools, and video preview in one interface.
  • VLLO: Provides added room for a video timeline and processing controls.

Video, live sports, and flexible-screen entertainment

Entertainment apps are also adapting their controls to the foldable form factor. Netflix is designed to let users browse on the outer screen before watching on the inner nano-texture display, with automatic portrait-to-landscape switching. Prime Video uses a partially folded layout that keeps video on the upper portion of the screen and puts X-Ray details, including cast and bonus content, below it.

  • Paramount+: Adds expanded playback controls and easier navigation for shows and live channels.
  • Apple TV: Optimizes movies and series for the expanded main display.
  • MLB: Supports real-time viewing of live games, highlights, scores, statistics, and standings.
  • PGA Tour: Supports real-time viewing of live events, highlights, scores, statistics, and standings.
  • Asphalt Legends: Adds optimized graphics, dynamic lighting on the inner display, and multiplayer with up to seven opponents.
  • Zenless Zone Zero: Adjusts touch controls automatically based on the device’s position and folding angle.
  • UnGodly: Adapts its view and controls, with a taller field of view when the phone is closed.
  • Sneaky Sasquatch: Is adapted for quick pick-up-and-play use when the device is open or closed.
  • Retrocade: Is adapted for quick pick-up-and-play use when the device is open or closed.
  • Deck-Man: Lets users select an album when the phone is open, then close it to listen through Apple Music.

A wider screen for everyday tasks

The format could be especially useful when a phone needs to stay propped up or show two related pieces of information at once. NYT Cooking, for example, is designed to keep recipes and instructions readable when the iPhone Duo is partially folded on a counter. Travel, shopping, and local-service apps are similarly using extra space for maps, reservations, tracking, and browsing.

  • Lowe’s: Offers a closer look at home finishes, materials, and patterns.
  • Shop: Optimizes product discovery, purchasing, and order tracking for different folding positions.
  • OpenTable: Brings restaurant details, table availability, and booking options into one view.
  • DoorDash: Shows real-time delivery tracking on an expanded map.
  • Yelp: Places maps and reviews side by side for faster comparisons of local businesses.
  • Lyft: Compares routes and fares on a larger map.
  • American Airlines: Provides access to boarding passes, seat selection, and terminal maps.
  • United Airlines: Uses a split-screen interface for navigation, bookings, and trip management.
  • Flighty: Offers a dedicated flight-monitoring view while the device is propped up.
  • Sky Guide: Displays edge-to-edge star maps with Liquid Glass-style controls.
  • Tide Guide: Combines tide charts with live weather radar.
  • edjing Mix: Presents a two-deck DJ console with audio effects and one-tap instrument and vocal separation.
  • Next Shot: Shows golf-course previews and navigation, including images, statistics, and scorecards.

Apple has also indicated that a future update will add support for Apple Pencil (USB-C). The company has not provided timing for that update in the available information. If delivered as described, the optimized app lineup and Pencil support would position iPhone Duo most strongly for users who want a foldable that can shift between phone-sized convenience and a more task-oriented portable workspace.
