A new iPad Mini 6 leak is upon us and this time we get to see renders based on schematics and CAD files that hit the web over the past week or so. We’re getting an iPad Mini that strays from the direction of the predecessors and looks like a smaller iPad Air 4.
The iPad Mini has been pretty much on the backburner ever since 2015. This fall we could get to finally see an improvement, with a big design change. Jon Prosser, a prolific leakster who unveiled the AirTags and iMac colors before hey were out has now published renders of the upcoming iPad Mini 6. These were created by people who have inside sources providing them with schematics, CAD files and even hands on images. The device has an aluminum build, a single back camera and iPhone 12-like flat edges.
The design language lines up perfectly with a recent report from Mark Gurman, claiming that the iPad Mini 6 was tested with narrower borders and sans Touch ID Home button. I should probably mention that Apple isn’t giving up on Touch ID altogether, but instead integrating it into the Power button, like the iPad Air did last year. We also get a switch from the USB-C port to a Lightning one and the speakers are said to have received a serious bump up. The iPad Mini 6 measurements are 206.3 mm x 137.8 mm x 6.1 mm, which is only slightly bigger than the iPad Mini 5.
We could also get a new smaller Apple Pencil for this device, perhaps even a new Magic Keyboard. Expect an 8.4 inch to 8.9 inch diagonal, an Apple A14 CPU and a Fall unveiling. The product should come in Silver Space Gray/Graphite and Gold. A 5G version is also in the cards.
