In a record breaking rush to get the new Apple item, the iPad 2 might have sold almost 1 million units on its debut weekend, if analysts are to be believed. The original iPad took 28 days to reach the same number of units, which makes the new tablet a record breaker.
Apple’s shares grew 0.6% to $354.20, as news about its success began to hit the web and media. The iPad 2 took off last Friday in Apple Stores, AT&T and Verizon Wireless stores, selling out in a mere 24 hours. Wal-Mart and Best Buy locations also welcomed the flow of customers who wanted the new gizmo.
The appeal of the iPad 2 is particularly high, as this tablet launches in the 3G version as well, not just the WiFi-only one, like the iPad 1. Ticonderoga Securities analyst Brian White says that the iPad 2 sold out at all Apple and other retail chains that his firm contacted. Best Buy said that it ran out of the product in a mere 10 minutes.
26 more countries will welcome the gadget on March 25, for even more record breaking sales.
