ASUS is also a big name that likes to make a splash at IFA 2017 and so it did, with some new convertibles and laptops. We’re talking about the ASUS Flip 14 and Flip 15 convertibles and VivoBook S14 laptop. They also add graphical solutions, capable ones and latest gen CPUs compared to the predecessors.
The devices stand out through their light package, even for laptops. The ZenBook Flip 14 is the “world’s thinnest 2 in 1 laptop with discreet graphics”. It measures 13.9 mm in thickness and weighs just 1.4 kg. On the graphical part we’ve got an entry level NVIDIA GeForce MX150 graphics card, basically the mobile version of the GeForce GT 1030.
Some light gaming and content creation will be doable. Specs include an 8th generation Intel Core i7 chipset, 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB PCIe x4 SSD. Plus, the screen is a 14 inch NanoEdge 1080p unit, with ultraslim bezels, that make the device feel like a 13 incher. 13 hours of battery life are promised here, plus there’s a fingerprint scanner here and Windows 10 as the OS.
Since it’s a convertible unit, it can easily become a tablet. Next up we’ve got the ASUS ZenBook Flip 15 with a 15.6 inch diagonal and pretty much the same specs. Aside from the 8th gen Core i7 CPU, there’s GTX1050 graphics, an optional 4K display and 2 TB HDD/512 GB SSD. Harman Kardon speakers, precision stylus support and Thunderbolt 3 are all here.
Moving on to strictly laptops, there’s the VivoBook S14, with an 8th gen Intel Core i7 chipset again, up to 16 GB of DDR4 RAM and GeForce MX150 graphics. This one weighs 1.3 kilograms and measures 18.8 mm in thickness. The build is solid, all metal and we’ve got 7.8 mm bezels, plus Full HD resolution.
