Huawei has been riding high this year, as the Android device maker with the highest profits in Q3 2016, beating 100 million smartphone sales, launching a quality tablet with quality speakers (MediaPad M3) and the prize winning MateBook. 2017 is going to bring us at least two new notebooks from them, with 13 inch and 15 inch screens.
Huawei will seriously enter the laptop market next year with these models based on Windows 10. Foxconn will be the ODM here and Huawei will work closely with them on the project. After Xiaomi launched a 12.5 and 13.3 inch laptop this year, it was clear that Chinese rivals would react. We don’t have an official confirmation, of course, but we expect specs to be very solid.
Seeing how the MateBook was unveiled at MWC 2016, we expect the new notebooks to come at MWC 2017. Of course, the MateBook was a Core M affair, but we suppose the notebooks will feature Core i5 or Core i7 chipsets, 8 GB of RAM and more, plus graphical cards. USB Type C ports should be here, Quad HD resolutions, too and generous batteries. Prices may go well into the $600, $700 or even $1000 territory.
I have a feeling that a touch OLED bar will also make the cut…
