Here’s a nifty move from HTC, that decided to donate tablets to young women in Southeast Asia. The announcement came from Cher Wang, HTC chairwoman, saying at a forum that she will be donating 100,000 tablets to young women.

The slates will be used for education and the concept here is to promote gender equality. For those of you wondering what those tablets will be, well it’s a bunch of HTC Flyer models, distributed in schools from Southeast Asia. This is not Wang’s first time distributing this slate version to schools. In August 2012 Wang also donated 6,000 Flyers to 60 schools in Taipei.

A new HTC tablet is long overdue, since the HTC Flyer dates from back in May 2011. It packs a 7 inch 600 x 1024 display, single core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S2 processor and a 4000 mAh battery. It runs on Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread, that’s seriously outdated. The model also comes with HTC Scribe and an optional stylus.
