Believe it or not, but the move to make the HP TouchPad $100 was actually a good one, making people love this device all of a sudden. For $99 who wouldn’t? Too bad that webOS has no future ahead of it and the apps aren’t all that good… This is where Android could fill the gap, if it was ported to the TouchPad.

Imagine Honeycomb or Ice Cream Sandwich running on the 1.2GHz dual core CPU, that puts the tablet on par with the HTC Sensation if you want. However, the TouchPad has a 9.7 inch 1024 x 768 IPS display it can use, making Android all the more appealing. The folks from RootzWiki are already interested in the idea and the project already has 90 pages after a mere day and a bit of discussions. The name TouchDroid has been tossed around, but some people that the TouchPad still deserves to be dead, since the hardware is the problem.

If the Honeycomb port works fine and the result is a fully functional tablet, that we have on our hands the highest end $100 tablet on the market, which is simply a killer for any other Android slate. Now let’s see HP banning the port, because they work with Microsoft, who probably hates Google…
