HMD Xplora Go Pad tablet

A tablet intended for younger users needs to survive more than a typical media slate—and parents may want more control than a standard account setting provides. The reportedly forthcoming HMD Xplora Go Pad is built around both priorities, combining an 8.7-inch portable form factor with cellular connectivity, ruggedness claims, and a broad set of parental-management features.

A compact tablet designed to stay connected

The Go Pad is expected to use an 8.7-inch IPS LCD and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 685, a 6nm chip with an integrated 4G modem. A SIM card could let the tablet connect away from Wi-Fi, an important capability for travel, school activities, or other supervised time outside the home.

HMD and Xplora have not detailed the display resolution or refresh rate, available memory and storage configurations, or battery capacity. Wired charging is reportedly rated at up to 18W.

Durability and oversight take priority over raw performance

The reported hardware is said to carry an IP65 rating for dust and water protection and to withstand drops from as high as 100 cm, or roughly 3.3 feet. Those claims would make the tablet better suited to the everyday knocks expected from a device handled by children, though details on its casing and any included protective accessories have not been disclosed.

Its software is expected to be the larger differentiator. Reported tools include web-activity detection, inappropriate-content blocking, and AI-based educational features. Parents may be able to manage internet and social-media access, approved contacts, screen time, and the tablet’s location.

HMD previously worked with Norwegian company Xplora on the HMD Fusion X1, a teen-focused phone with expanded parental controls. The Go Pad appears to extend that approach to a larger screen for supervised learning and entertainment. HMD has not formally announced the tablet, and its price, release timing, and market availability remain unknown.
