It’s not just iFixit that’s doing teardowns these days, but also a site called PowerBook Medic, that took care of the Nexus 10 and let its components out. There are no major surprises inside, apart from the conclusion drawn after the teardown: this device is all Samsung and it’s very easy to take apart, without any glue to be found or other sticky problems.
As far as the manufacturing origin of the slate goes, Samsung made everything on it, from the processor to the flash memory and even the battery. The model that Powerbook Medic took apart is the 16 GB WiFi one and when compared to an Apple slate, this model uses a much more accessible assembly, without glue. Meanwhile Apple uses as much glue as possible. You should also know that the Nexus 10 display and digitizer are fused together and that there are two heat shields on the logic board, that are easy to remove by removing the 7 Philips head screws.
So, is the fact that Samsung is making everything inside the latest Google tablet a statement of independence? After being accused of copying the iPad, here goes Samsung and makes a tablet totally out of its original components. And meanwhile the iDevices still use Samsung parts…
