FrogPad’s multitouch patents have been applied to the hardware for 9 years now, so they can’t be disputed. Here’s the technology in action:

Multitouch is evolving and, as you can see functionality is the main criteria for success. There’s also a theory and concept that FrogPad’s idea, dating back from years ago was used by ALL companies that created multitouch products. The concept has 4 main basic features: release entry, sequential entry, non-sequential entry and modifier.
