It’s CES 2017 time folks and Lenovo is kicking things up in style, by debuting the MIIX 720 2 in 1 model, a clear Surface Pro rival. This Windows-based detachable is the successor to the MIIX 700 and it’s quite a powerful machine.
Lenovo started with an upgrade of the CPU, offering an Intel Kaby Lake 15W model. There’s a 12 inch 2880 x 1920 3:2 screen on board with a pixel density of 288 pixels per inch, which is a clear bump from the MIIX 700. Various configs are available here, with up to 16 GB of DDR4 RAM and up to 1 TB of SSD storage, everything crammed up into a pretty compact package, weighing 780 grams and measuring 8.9 mm in thickness.
There’s also 3 USB ports on board, one USB Type C (3.1), one USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0. Then there’s a Thunderbolt 3, for connection to up to two external displays. Lenovo rates this model for up to 8 hours of battery life and also embedded Microsoft’s Hello biometric protection. There’s no fingerprint scanner, but there’s facial recognition, or perhaps iris scanning (it wasn’t made clear).
The slate has a detachable keyboard, runs Windows 10 and also brings in a 150 degree kickstand. The Lenovo Active Pen 2 is used in tandem with the device, offering 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity. The product goes on sale in April, starting at $999.99.
