AT&T CEO Ralph de la Vega recently mentioned in an interview that he considers a smaller 100gb sim card a good idea, making us think of the recent technology that Apple is said to be developing with the blessing of Orange. De la Vega also admitted that the carrier he runs is “working with the industry” to develop something viable in that direction.

Last month, France Telecom CEO Stephane Richard expressed support for Apple and the initiative for creating an even smaller SIM card than the one on the iPhone 4 and iPad. This might help make the next iPhone even smaller and thinner, because of the reduction in SIM card size. The Cupertino giant already submitted a requirement for a smaller SIM with the European standards institute, so right now all we have to do is wait and see.

There have been talks about an iPhone with an embedded SIM, but that would give carriers too much control and nobody wants that, right? De la Vega also mentioned in the interview that he’d like to see more competitive products going against the iPad, that seems to lack a real rival right now.
