As you can see in the tweet at the end of the article, an ASUS Romania representative confirmed what Slashgear also said: the fact that the ASUS Transformer Prime tablet will get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich via update on January 12th. We’ve reviewed the quad core Tegra 3 tablet recently and found it to be a very good product, in spite of a few shortcomings, all of them caused by Honeycomb actually.
Now that the tablet gets rid of the OS that the device wasn’t made for, it will get Android 4.0 and bonus we also get a bootloader unlock, for people worrying about this aspect over the past days. Everyone was shocked to learn this week that the tablet comes with a locked bootloader, but that will be gone soon, to the joy of developers and hackers alike. Considering the confirmation regarding the Ice Cream Sandwich arrival on the Transformer Prime, I’m expecting an update for the Motorola Xoom and the Xoom 2 pretty soon, maybe this month too.
The Galaxy Tab units launched last year might also get their share of updates soon enough… but in the meantime keep your quad core ASUS tablets close!
