The Archos GamePad with 7 inch display is only one of the upcoming gaming tablets, that are becoming a trend these days. We’ve got the Wikipad, this model and about one or two more units in the making from other brands. I have to say that I didn’t think much about the Archos GamePad till I saw the video below. It actually looks kind of nice, like a bigger PS Vita.
This product was announced back in August and it comes with Android 4.0 ICS, a 7 inch 1024 x 600 pixel display and a 1.5 GHz dual core processor, a Rockchip RK3066 chip. The device also has built in gaming controls, triggers and bumpers, that you may be familiar with. Originally the gaming tablet was supposed to come in October, but we haven’t heard anything about the debut since August. The folks of ARMdevices.net got some hands on quality time with the product, with the result being the video below.
It even plays a bunch of Nintendo emulators, as shown here and the cool thing is that it actually maps the on screen controls to the built in gamepad. The GamePad comes with a built in automatic key mapping system, that I think should be implemented on all touch gaming devices that also have physical controls. Another advantage is the fact it has HDMI out and if the rumored price point of $149 is real, sign me up for one or maybe even two units.
