That is a significant departure from the Mate XT and Mate XTs. The older Z-shaped system could use part of the large display as an outer screen and supported an intermediate form factor. The new mechanism should offer better protection for the flexible panel, but it appears to give up some of that versatility. The exterior retains several familiar cues: an octagonal camera module, a heavily textured back, and Ultimate Design branding. Richard Yu’s unit is finished in a dark purple shade. Earlier reports had suggested that Richard Yu had already been seen with a possible Mate XT 2, but the phone’s identity could not be confirmed at the time. That is no longer in doubt.
Full specifications are being held for the event. Rumors have pointed to a new Kirin processor, a larger battery, and camera upgrades, but Huawei has not confirmed them in this teaser. For now, a few seconds of video are not enough to treat speculation as a spec sheet. What is certain is that the Huawei Mate XT 2 will launch on September 7, alongside HarmonyOS 7, and its major design change is already on display.
