The Sony Xperia Tablet Z is officially getting Android 4.4 KitKat this week, which is about a few weeks before the next Android gets released. That’s kind of late for a big product like last year’s flagship Sony tablet…

Anyway, the firmware update will roll out in selected markets today and it is aimed at upgrading the users to the “Sony User Experience”, meaning that it includes updated versions of its exclusive apps. We’re talking about messaging apps, email, Smart Social Camera and the battery Stamina mode. Sony also updates its trademark Walkman, Album and Movies apps with a new UI and faster downloads.

There are also other models refreshed like the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL and Xperia ZR. Sony also wants to update the Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia E1 and M2 from July. Other enhancements brought on with KitKat are a new status bar, Quick Settings menu, a PS4 style UI with a new live wallpaper and as usual bug fixes and stability enhancements.
