The list of companies that are working on an 8 core MediaTek CPU device now includes Newman. This brand is preparing a phablet like the one shown below, that seems to imitate the Xperia Z quite a bit.
The device is dubbed Newman K18 and it comes in black, with specs including a 5 inch 1080p OGS panel, scratch resistant coating and the previously mentioned 8 core CPU. The handset is said to be only 6.17 mm thick, so the K18 is one of the thinnest big screen devices out there. The K18 uses an unibody design and seems to pack a glass back panel, like the Xperia Z.
Quite a few companies are working on 8 core devices with MediaTek CPU inside and names include TCL, UMi, THL and Zopo, among others. I’m curious to see some benchmarks for the MT6592 before we get too excited.
