At first I thought it was all a joke, but as it turns out, it’s not… It appears that the future of Android is associated to a chocolate bar, that’s kind of a trademark. Straight from the horse’s mouth, which is from a Google official and the Android.com site comes confirmation that the next Android release will be named KitKat, probably version 4.4.
It all started when Sundar Pichai, the boss of Android and Chrome posted on his Google+ page that he was greeted by a big Kitkat statue on the lawn where Android mascots are posted. For about a year or so we were lead to believe that the next version of Android will be codename Key Lime Pie. We even saw various associations with the pie, but the theory didn’t hold water when you consider there are 3 words here to work with and Ice Cream Sandwich was confusing enough.
As you know already, every dev, modder and fanboy is passionate about initials and making names shorter. Imagine the horror when Android KitKat will be known as Android KK, with all its negative associations. KitKat is a brand registered by Nestle, which I believe to be a corporation bigger than Google, to be honest. Anyway, I guess we’ll have to wait and see how this plays out. Are you ready for Android Nutella?
