Mobile World Congress 2013 is about one week away, so this time next week we’ll already be handling some of the gear in Barcelona. The new equipment will obviously include some tablets, like the NEC Medias Tab, the lightest tablet in the world, a 7 inch model that has been confirmed to appear in Barcelona.
The full name of the device is actually NEC Medias ULN-08D and it comes with a 7 inch 1280 x 800 pixel display, a dual core Qualcomm Snadpragon S4 MSM8960 processor at 1.5 GHz, 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. There’s also a microSD card slot, two cameras included, a WiFi module, LTE, Bluetooth and a TV antenna.
The device sadly runs Android 4.0 ICS with some customization and proprietary software. We can’t really say if this model will come with a Jelly Bean update or not. The NEC Medias ULN-08D has the highlight in its dimensions and it weighs 249 grams, plus it measures 7.9 mm in thickness. Only the Sony Xperia Tablet Z is thinner than that, at 6.9 mm in thickness. NEC will also bring a 10.1 inch slate at the show, the Cloud Communicator, that will only be sold in Asia, sadly.
