The ASUS PadFone 2 has arrived to us for testing purposes and we’re pretty pleased by it. We’ve unboxed it in the video below, for your viewing pleasure and just like the first device, this is a hybrid between a smartphone and tablet. Everything has been upgraded, from RAM to CPU and design. Let’s see what’s inside the box!
The product was unveiled in October and we were present in Milan for its big unveiling. It goes for 800 euros, a price that gives you the phone and tablet, no keyboard dock here. Inside the box we find the devices, a pair of headphones that look like the ones of the PadFone 1, a charger and USB cable. ASUS PadFone 2 uses a microSIM slot, doesn’t use a microSD and its back cover is theoretically non removable, although you can remove it if you try hard and you’ll uncover a battery with a “do not remove” seal, that can also be removed, if you really insist on doing that.
The phone measures 9 mm in thickness and features a 4.7 inch HD display, a Super IPS+ LCD, while the tablet offers a 10.1 inch 1280 x 800 pixel IPS display. Other specs of the handset include 2 GB of RAM and a quad core Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU, as well as a 13 megapixel camera. The OS here is Android 4.0 ICS, but an update to Jelly Bean is incoming. We zoomed in on the rubber brakes that the tablet uses to hold the phone into place, in lack of a proper lid/cover like the first PadFone.
