Another day, another cheap Android 4.0 tablet… this time one made by Gemini Devices: JoyTab. The JoyTab Tablet is in fact a series of 7 inch, 8 and 9.7 inch versions of the same device, all of them packing Android 4.0 ICS. Specs are reasonably good and include a single core 1 GHz ARM Cortex A8 CPU in the 7 inch version, plus 512 MB of RAM and a Mali 400 GPU.
There’s also 4/8 GB of storage, a microSD card slot and a pretty low resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. The 8 inch tablet has a 1.2 GHz processor and a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels, while the 9.7 inch one has a Rockchip RK2918 1GHz CPU, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage + microSD. The biggest slate of the trio has the highest resolution, 1024 x 768 (IPS display) and it’s most likely the same panel seen on the iPad and HP TouchPad. All of the tablets run Android 4.0 ICS, all of them have micro HDMI outputs and microUSB too.
Gemini Devices highlights the ability of the devices to play back H.264 content and Xvid in MKV containers, offering up to 1080p resolution. Battery life is supposed to be around 6 hours for the 7 inch version, 7 hours for the 8 inch unit and 6 hours for the 9.7 incher. As far as pricing goes, the JoyTab 7 starts at $208, while the 8 inch unit goes for $240 and the 9.7 inch JoyTab costs $320. You’ll find them on Amazon.co.uk right now.
