Motorola just published on its Owner’s Forum a list of Android models that are up for upgrade to version 4.0 of the OS. The charts are dated February 15th and mention the Motorola Xoom Family Edition is expected to get ICS in Q2 2012. US models that will get the update in Q3 include the Motorola Photon 4G, Motorola Atrix and Motorola Atrix 4G.
Finally, the latest Moto tablets, Xyboard 8.2 and 10.1 will also get Ice Cream Sandwich in the third quarter. It’s strange to see that Moto Droid RAZR, the RAZR MAXX and the Droid 4 are missing from the list and so is the Droid Bionic. Right now, these devices are listed under “evaluation and planning”, without a certain timeframe for their software upgrade. Motorola assured everyone that these handsets and tablets will get Android 4.0 eventually, so no worries here.
In case you want to become familiar with the whole updating process, know that it involves an evaluation and planning phase, where technical issues are addressed, then the development stage, when a quarter is mentioned for the debut of the software and then the testing phase. This one involves tests and the handset maker gives us the month of the launch. Finally, phase 4 is actually the rollout and customers get a notification that the new software is available via OTA installation.
In any case, if you’re an owner of the devices above, you shouldn’t worry since by fall you’ll have the latest software.
