After informing you yesterday that the Datawind affordable $35 tablets from India are coming to the UK, today we learn they’re coming to the USA as well. There’s a trio of models coming and the price being thrown around is $38.
The $38 model is the UbiSlate with a 7 inch 800 x 480 screen, 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of storage. It also has a microSD card slot, a 1 GHz Cortex A8 CPU and WiFi, plus a front VGA camera and Android 4.0.3. In the UK and India the product is meant for the school system and I’m guessing the same target audience will be adopted in USA, although it’s more about the iPad in that country.
The higher end Datawind units are still reasonably priced, at $79 for the UbiSlate 7Ci for example. That one brings 2G mobile connectivity to the table via EDGE networks. Also, if customers pay an extra $20, they can get a free year of basic web browsing. If you spend $129, the UbiSlate 3G7 brings you 3G on HSPA networks and also bundles Bluetooth and GPS, plus a dual core CPU.
