VIA is a chip maker who has unveiled a new tablet model, this time a rugged Android slate with a 10 inch display. The newcomer is dubbed VIA Viega and it’s IP65 certified for protection against dust and water, meaning you can use the slate outside or in dirty areas without problems.
This model also comes with vibration protection and it can take drops of over 6 feet. It has a tempered and shatter proof glass screen. In spite of its tough shell, this model isn’t exactly cutting edge when it comes to specs. It brings a 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex A9 dual core CPU with Mali 400 graphics, 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. There’s also Android 4.2 Jelly Bean on board and this model is not intended for you and me, just so you know.
This device is meant for enterprise and industrial customers. VIA claims the slate can be used on a showroom floor, on a construction side or in other tough areas. Viega comes with two micro USB ports, a micro HDMI port, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, NFC and optional 3G. It brings stereo speakers, an optional 5 megapixel rear camera and a 2 MP shooter too. The screen is a 10.1 inch 1280 x 800 unit and the product gives you 9 hours of battery life.
