After finding out that Sony has the lion’s share of the non-iPad tablet market in the UK, now the Japanese company is king enough to reveal a time frame for the update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for its device. Turns out that the Sony Tablets and Xperia handsets will get ICS during the Spring of 2012. Tablet S and Tablet P will get this treatment and they’re both undergoing test processes right now.

No exact release date has been unveiled, but Sony promises “some really cool unique features” especially created for the slates. I, for one, would want a more fluid experience, I’d like to keep the nice visuals of the audio player, I’d like an YouTube app that doesn’t Force Close all the time and a better integration of Sony’s Music and Video unlimited services, that were crappy on the Tablet S I tested. Ice Cream Sandwich supports USB game controllers, just like Honeycomb, so nothing new on the gaming side here..

Maybe we’ll get some special compatibility with the PS Vita, that will be out on the market by then. An extra layer of software for the UI would also be welcome, since in Honeycomb I didn’t quite feel the customization from Sony and an unique fingerprint from them…
