MediaTek debuted today its already known 8 core CPU, MT6592, that we’ve been hearing about for months now. Several devices with this solution on board have already been leaked, from the likes of Huawei, Zopo and other Chinese device makers.
Today marks the official launch of the product, since the announcement happened quite some time ago. The unveiling comes in preparation for the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday season. Companies who tested the chip for upcoming devices include Xiaomi, Coolpad, ZTE, Lenovo and Huawei and expectations are high for this processing solution.
The octa core chip will bring MediaTek higher into the ranks of CPU makers, after already being pretty popular with big brands like Acer or ASUS lately. MediaTek is working with TSMC for the production of 8 core chips, using a 28 nm HMP process. They are also working on a 20 nm process and there’s a 16 nm product scheduled for 2015.
