Ubuntu has been an on and off presence in the world of mobile devices over the past year, surfacing here and there, usually as Ubuntu Touch on some handsets and slates. Today we came across the MJ Technology tablet with Ubuntu on board, that will be up for preorder soon.

Crowdfunding will be available for this product, that comes from the MJ Technology startup. Keep in mind the tablet runs regular Ubuntu, not Ubuntu Touch and it comes with 2 size versions: 8.9 and 10.1 inches. Both screens use IPS panels and offer 1920 x 1200 pixel resolutions, as well as 10 point multitouch. The bigger unit is $399 and the smaller one $349.

Specs also include an Intel Atom x7-Z8700 processor, as well as 4 GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 64 GB of storage. There’s a microSD card slot in the mix as well, a mini PCI Express slot with external access and GPS. On the connectivity side of things, all the core options are covered: WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, micro HDMI out, USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports.
