Compal Electronics registered an important increase in tablet shipments proportion in early 2013, from 4% in 2012 to 10% in January-February this year. The proportion is expected to increase even further in the second half of the year, according to supply chain makers.
The increase of the past 2 month was generated by the fact that Compal started shipping 7 inch tablets to Acer, according to sources. Compal has been competing for ODM orders for 10 inch tablets from Acer as well. Compal has also received orders for a 7 inch Kindle Fire from Amazon and also orders for HP tablets. I wouldn’t be surprised if they made the cheap HP Android tablet, that’s expected to sell big volumes.
Kindle Fire shipments from Compal start in Q3 2013 and the company aims to ship 8 to 10 million slates this year, 6 times more than in 2012, which is impressive growth for any company. What will the other ODMs do to counter their rise? Probably lower prices…
