The upcoming Nexus 7 2 tablet is once again in the news and we’ve yet to see a launch date or leaked picture of the device. Google I/O went by and nothing was unveiled, but today we may have some intel regarding one of the components of the device.
Sources close to the suppliers and component makers are claiming that AU Optronics (AUO) is involved in making the display panels for the new Nexus 7 slate. This device will be once again made jointly by ASUS and Google and it will start shipping at the end of second quarter. It’s expect to hit the market shelves in Q3, if all goes well.
The panel we’ve mentioned is a 7 inch LTPS one (low temperature poly silicon), produced mainly by AU Optronics, said the sources. AUO said that the company doesn’t comment on particular customers and orders. Earlier reports have shown that about one million units of the second gen Nexus 7 will be shipped in May and total shipments for 2013 may reach 8 million.
