ASUS is known for impressive battery lives, like the 15 hours you get out of the Transformer Pad 300 or even the 18 or so you’re supposed to get from the Prime. Well, how does the ASUS PadFone fit in with that? Engadget managed to spot an official promotional video that was removed from the ASUS YouTube channel, but it was interesting since it mentioned 16 hours of battery life for the phone alone.
It also mentioned 63 hours for the tablet mode and 102 for the laptop mode. That sounds incredible and strange, to the Engadget Chinese branch contacted ASUS, who said that these are in fact continuous talk times over 2G. Also, the video was pulled in order to be re-edited. And since they asked, ASUS also provided realistic battery life figures from their lab. With the screen set to 137 nits, meaning half the brightness, you get 2.6 hours in phone mode, 10.7 hours in tablet mode and 17 hours in laptop mode.
These are continuous WiFi browsing times. Also, if you’re browsing via 3G, the times go to 2.1 hours, 8.9 hours and 14.1 hours respectively. The PadFone Station and PadFone Station Dock seem to increase the phone’s battery 5 fold and 9 fold respectively, just as promised. Keep in mind that the phone only has a 1,520 mAh battery, in case you feel that its battery is too weak.
