After a while ago we had the opportunity to see a preview with the next Android version called for now Android L, it seems that this one could arrive on our phones as Lemon Meringue Pie, this name being just a rumor for the moment. As we may know, Google had named its Android versions with “sweet” names as: Ice Cream Sandwich, JellyBean or KitKat.
We find out that the code name of the new Android version is LMP, a code that will stand behind its full name – Android Lemon Meringue Pie. Even if the previous Android K version had the KLP code name (Key Lime Pie), this one arrive on the market as Android 4.4 KitKat, a thing that suggest the fact that Google can change its mind in the last second regarding names of its operating systems.
However, there’s still some proves that Android L will be indeed called Lemon Meringue Pie. Among them we find some WiFi certification documents for the HTC Flounder tablet, a device that is supposed to arrive on the market as Nexus 9. The LMP code name is found in the firmware name as you can see above.
Also, the same code name LMP shows up in Android Open Source Project database, and in the latest Android SDK too, details that can be seen in the pictures during this article. It remains to see if Android 5.0 will be named Lemon Meringue Pie or if Google will find another option.
