Acer America just confirmed that the Acer Iconia Tab A500 and A100 tablets will be getting updates to Android 4.0 in April. This news came after Acer New Zealand also announced the same thing, so it’s pretty much official right now. It may still be bad news for many people, who were actually expecting the update sooner…
Right now we have 3 tablets that have been upgraded to ICS: Motorola Xoom, ASUS Transformer Prime and Acer Iconia Tab A200. The first to get it was the Transformer Prime on the 10th of January and recently Moto also confirmed ICS for the other slates it has in its portofolio, but that update will come in Q3. Whenever I find out that a big company announces a delayed Android 4.0 update, I immediately think about the fact that they want to sell a brand new slate announced at MWC and running preinstalled Android 4.0.
I guess that Acer is also one of them, with a model or two of tablets prepared for Barcelona. It’s really stupid to see this strategy in action, especially since some of the phones and tablets that will be announced will have NOTHING extra from their predecessors aside from Android 4.0. Silly, right?
