AT&T debuted the ASUS PadFone X in June, about half a year from its original announcement and now there’s already a successor in the making. Taiwanese site Focus Taiwan claims that sales of the PadFone X have been good and now ASUS and AT&T are working on a new model.
The information is supposed to come from ASUS VP Benson Lin. We don’t have any clear specs right now, but we’re pretty sure we’ll get a smartphone-tablet dock combo, as usual. AT&T is selling the PadFone X right now on contract for $199.99, but you can also buy it free of commitment for $549.99. The device runs Android 4.4 KitKat and features a 5 inch 1080p smartphone, as well as a 9 inch tablet dock.
It also comes with a 13 megapixel rear camera, a quad core 2.3 GHz Snapdragon 800 processor and 2 GB of ram, as well as 16 GB of storage. Earlier this week ASUS debuted a non US version of the PadFone X in Taiwan, where it comes with a Snapdragon 801 CPU and under the name PadFone S. There it also gets a splash proof coating and wireless charging. I expect these features to also make it to the next PadFone X, including more RAM and a better CPU.
