Following retailers Tesco and Argos, Carphone Warehouse launched its own tablet in the UK. The device is called the Avoca tablet and it’s priced at just 49 pounds. The real price is 99 quid, but the 49 price tag will apply in the run up to Christmas.
The Avoca tablet runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and bundles Skype for video calls and also features an ereader feature built in. Graham Stapleton, chief executive at Carphone Warehouse UK said that the retailer knows that over a third of tablet purchases are for children and family use and one of the reasons for not buying one is the cost.
This is a 7 inch tablet with a 480 x 800 pixel resolution, 8 GB of storage and a battery life of about 8 hours. There’s a 1 GHz CPU inside, 512 MB of RAM, a microSD card slot and a 0.3 MP front camera. Or you can get the Archos 7 inch tablet for 99 quid and the Tesco Hudl for 119 quid. The choice is yours, for the UK market.
