Since we’re close to Xmas time, it doesn’t surprise me that people started to mess around with gadgets, trying to create something in the holiday spirit using them. Samsung and RT Corp have an interesting initiative, that involves the unique robot shown below and in action in the video at the end of the article.

This robot is called Hug-Chan and it was created specifically for the Christmas season, using a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 for a head/brain and the Samsung Galaxy S II LTE as its “heart”. The robot is able to dance, sing Christmas carols and most importantly hug people who visit the Galaxy Cafe in Roppongi Hills, Tokyo. In case you can’t travel that far, you can use the website here, that shows the robot’s interactions with visitors, courtesy of a webcam.

That’s certainly a cuter way of promoting Samsung gear than that commercial that called all Apple fans sheep. I have to say that this humanoid robot is pretty flexible and its moves are flowing naturally, so technology and robotics have evolved quite a lot in this segment. I’m guessing that Google is also happy to see its Android partners making real Droids.
