  • Chuwi is one of the most prolific tablet makers over the past years, at least among those from China. They’re keeping their brand up, with two new releases this week, the SurBook and SurBook Mini slates, clearly inspired by the Surface Pro tablets.

These devices were seen by the folks of Notebook Italia at the Hong Kong Global Sources Fair and some hands on clips were filmed with the newcomers, as shown below. Chuwi SurBook is a 12.3 incher with a 2736 x 1824 pixel resolution and a 3:2 aspect ratio, much like the Surface Pro 4. There’s a built in kickstand, used to prop up the device when you’re using the keyboard.

However, the specs aren’t at Surface level, since we get an Intel Celeron N3450 quad core Apollo Lake chipset, not the Core i or the Core M of the Microsoft models. At least we see 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage on board, but this one is eMMC 5.0 storage, a bit slower than the PCIe used by Microsoft. Other specs include a microSD card slot, a 5 MP back camera, 2 MP front shooter, USB Type C port, mini HDMI port, full USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports, as well as WiFi ac.

As far as the Chuwi SurBook Mini goes, it’s a 10.5 inch tablet with a 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution and 16:10 aspect ratio. It keeps the same Celeron N3450 processor and 6 GB of RAM, has the adjustable kickstand and relies on eMMC 5.0 storage, but only with 64 GB available here.

The connectivity options and the cameras are also the same. Interestingly, Chuwi has plans to offer the products with either Windows and/or Ubuntu Linux. These products will come via crowdfunding campaign in May and we don’t have the final price yet.
